Historically, this city has been referred to as the “place of offerings” since it is situated at the confluence (Sangam) of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sarasvati rivers. One of the oldest towns in India, Allahabad is very significant in Hindu texts. Originally known as Kaushambi, the city developed into a center of politics and culture before being renamed Ilahabad by Mughal emperor Akbar, which the British eventually changed to Allahabad. Take a holy bath at the Sangam, see the Bada Hanuman Mandir, see the Akshayavat tree, and visit Anand Bhawan, the birthplace of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first prime minister. Spend the night in Allahabad.

Note: We advise staying in a camp close to the Kumbh grounds during the Kumbh Mela, as day travels may be impacted by traffic control, particularly during Shahi Snan days.

After breakfast, spend the day exploring Chitrakoot, sometimes referred to as “the hills of many wonders.” Chitrakoot is a tranquil haven tucked away in the Vindhya range, situated in the Banda district of Uttar Pradesh on the banks of the river Paisuni (Mandakini). Since Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshman spent eleven years in exile there, it is very significant. The fabled sage Atri and his wife Anasuya are also connected to the holy pilgrimage location of Chitrakoot Dham. Goswami Tulsidas, the author of Shri Ramcharitmanas, lived a large portion of his life at this place, which is revered as the home of Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.Discover the serene splendor of nature as well as the many temples and shrines. Return to Allahabad for the night after the expedition.
